I realize I haven't done any "office fun" blogs in a while. I stopped because I felt a little guilty about poking fun at those poor unfortunate souls whose clueless-ness is simply a result of their youthful (and sometimes elderly) ignorance. But I got over it. Sometimes I just have to retell the crazy things I experience. I'm not poking fun. I'm simply sharing adventures.
yeah, I don't buy it either...
Today a sharply dressed man walked into the office and asked if Glenda Rodriguez worked here. There is no Glenda Rodriguez here so I pulled up the FIU directory and searched for her. No results.
The poor man seemed devastated. I thought perhaps he had a job interview and couldn't find the right office. Totally understandable. FIU is a complicated place.
As the man was leaving, he began conversing with my coworker in French (they are both from Haiti). I caught some words but I missed the gist of the conversation. When the man walked out, my coworker began laughing hysterically. I looked at him with surprise and he finally caught his breath to tell me what happened.
Apparently the sharply dressed man met a woman at a club and this woman had told him that she worked at FIU. She gave him no number but told him her name was Glenda Rodriguez. He thought it would be great to show up at FIU and surprise this Glenda at work! To no one's surprise but his, there is no Glenda at FIU.
There is a lesson here. Don't trust the information people you meet in clubs give you. It will protect you from showing up at an office looking for someone that doesn't exist.
